Lisa Green is the new city inspector general. City Council approved her four-year appointment Tuesday. Green takes the position after serving as interim inspector general since June when James Hoffmann resigned. Green is the third person to fill the position since it was created in 2014. Her term runs through June 2022.

Suspended council members’ federal fraud trial set for February

The federal fraud trial for suspended City Council members Katrina Brown and Reginald Brown is delayed until February.

U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard said Tuesday during a status hearing that the five-month delay will give the defense enough time to review more than 28,000 pages of evidence provided by federal prosecutors. Katrina Brown and Reginald Brown, who are not related, face a total of 38 federal fraud charges connected to a failed barbecue sauce plant owned by Katrina Brown’s family.

They were indicted in May by a grand jury and were suspended by Gov. Rick Scott. They face charges of aiding and abetting mail and wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy.

They were not present at the hearing Tuesday.
