Mayor urges shoppers to buy only what they need to prevent purchase limits.
Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry said his administration has received commitments from grocery industry leaders to “keep their doors open” despite the spread of the new coronavirus.
In a Twitter thread March 18, Curry said he’s also been assured by the industry that food distribution and supply chains remain “totally in-tact.”
“Every grocery store in our community is currently and will continue to receive daily shipments of goods,” Curry wrote. “As a result of the mass purchasing, grocery stores have been forced to place limits on personal care products.”
Curry urged shoppers to prevent limits on more items, including food, by purchasing only what they need.
Grocery stores are exempt from restrictions ordered March 16 to limit bars, restaurants, churches, movie theaters and “social gathering places” to a maximum capacity of 50 people.
