Work continues on converting an old bank and trust building into the Cowford Chophouse in Downtown.

On Tuesday, contractor Danis Construction LLC submitted a permit application to the city for an almost $3.2 million project for the foundation and roof structure at the 101 E. Bay St. structure.

Plans show bars, kitchens, storage and business space on the three floors.

Property owner Jacques Klempf intends to turn the building into an upscale steak and seafood restaurant. The cowfordchophouse.com site says it will open in the fall.

Danis Construction took over the project May 31 after Klempf moved on from Elkins Construction LLC.
