The Florida Bar board of governors is extending the deadline to Dec. 16 for lawyers to apply for vacancies on the Florida Rural Legal Services Inc. board and the Statewide Nominating Commission for Judges of Compensations Claims.

Applicants must be Florida Bar members in good standing. Vacancies will be filled during the Jan. 27 board of governors meeting.

One attorney is needed to serve a three-year term beginning Jan. 1 on Florida Rural Legal Services Inc.’s 20-member board of directors.

Other appointing organizations are the Virgil Hawkins Florida Chapter, American Civil Liberties Union, voluntary Bar associations and other eligible client and community organizations.

The mission of Florida Rural Legal Services is to empower low-income residents, groups and communities by providing them with access to justice through legal advice, representation and advocacy.

The Statewide Nominating Commission for Judges of Compensation Claims needs four attorneys from each of the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th state appellate districts to serve the remainder of four-year terms commencing Jan. 1.

Attorneys who appear before any judge of compensation claims more than four times a year are not eligible to serve on the commission.

Commissioners also are not eligible for state judicial vacancies filled by the judicial nominating commission on which they sit for two years following the expiration of their term.

Commissioners are subject to Florida financial disclosure laws. Meetings and deliberations are open to the public.

Attorneys interested in applying for these vacancies may visit tinyurl.com/4nyfhdca to download the application or call Bar headquarters at 850-561-5757 to obtain the application form.

Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of the required application.

The board of governors will review all applications and may request interviews.
