Here’s our Downtown Service Guide, as compiled by the Daily Record staff.

ATMs

The banks, of course. ATMs also can be found at Scottie Discount Stores on West Adams, in the lobby of the Humana Building on Laura, on the second floor of the Landing and inside Bay Street Cafe.

Airline reservations

World Travel is located in Independent Square.

Drive-through Banks

There’s a SouthTrust in the Riverplace Tower. Citrus Bank is on Riverplace Blvd. Bank of America in San Marco. Educational Community Credit Union at Main St. The Government Employees Credit Union on Broad. First Alliance Bank on Adams. First Union branch on Clay.

Bars

The big hotels and Landing restaurants have full bars. There are also full bars in Ed’s Spanish-American Restaurant in the Blackstone Building, Dr. Sherwood’s is under the I-95 overpass on San Marco Blvd., Locals is on Prudential Drive (and serves food until 1 a.m.) and the River City Brewing Co. on the Southbank has a big lounge. For the younger set, there’s DV8 on West Forsyth Street.

Books

The Landing’s B. Dalton has a big selection. Gift shops have paperbacks. There’s a U.S. Government Bookstore on Laura across from Independent Square. First Baptist and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church also have books stores. There’s also a Christian Science reading room at 45 W. Adams St. And there’s the library, of course.

Business services

Kinko’s on Forsyth. The Downtown Business Center in Independent Square. Total Reproductions on W. Adams. Southside Blueprint on Kings Ave. The Letter Shop/Futch Printing & Mailing on E. Forsyth. River Printing and Office Supply on Hogan. Sir Speedy on Beaver St. or San Marco Blvd. Security First Document Services and Copy Express of Jacksonville on N. Pearl.

Cameras

The photo shop at Independent Square has a small selection. There are several good camera stores on Hendricks between the Southbank and San Marco.

Cappuccino

Caffe Athena is on Bay Street across from Independent Square. Cafe D’Oro has stalls in the Bank of America Tower and the Omni. Starbucks has a place in the Landing and Breaktime Gourmet Coffee and Ice Cream is in Independent Square.

Cigars

There’s a small store on Ocean between Bay and Forsyth and another at the Landing.

Convenience stores

There’s one on Union. Scottie Discount Stores on Adams has most of what you’ll need. Farah’s Sundries near Hemming Plaza. The BP station on Prudential is a mini-convenience store. At the Landing, there’s Dollarmart and the Farah’s on Bay across from the County Courthouse.

Daycare

Magellan Academies in the Bank of America Tower. Family Partners Childcare Center in the Riverplace Tower. Bank of America Family Center on N. Market. First Coast Child Enrichment Center on E. Duval. First United Methodist. Salvation Army Child Care Development Center on N. Ocean.

Dentists

A Downtown Dental on W. Adams. Dr. Chester Aikens on E. Union. Dr. Elias Sargi on Riverside Ave. Dr. Robin Ford Edwards and Dr. Michele Cavendish at the corner of Adams and Hogan streets.

Dry cleaning

You can drop off clothing at the Bank of America gift shop. There’s also One Price Dry Cleaning on San Marco Blvd. near the I-95 overpass. Window & Blessing is on Bay across from the courthouse. Natasha Professional Tailoring and Alterations at 125 Hogan St.

Eyeglasses

There are optical stores at the corner of Laura and Bay, on Laura between Adams and Monroe, and at the corner of Market and Church streets.

Film developing

Downtown Photo is in Independent Square and offers one-hour service. Orben’s or Lightsource on the Southbank develops black and white film, too.

Florists

LaMee has a shop in both Independent Square and the BellSouth building. Hartley Florist is on Hendricks at LaSalle.

Fresh fruit

Apple-A-Day in the Landing.

Funeral homes

Peeples Family Funeral Home, 17 W. Union St.

Furniture and baby gifts

Creative Decor by Meche Farah is a new store on Duval that sells baby gifts and whimsical unique furnishings.

Gas stations

There’s a Shell on the corner of Main and Ashley streets and a Texaco at Beaver and Union streets. The BP station on Prudential Drive has a car wash, too.

Glass

Lee and Cates Glass, 905 W. Forsyth St.

Grocery stores

There’s a Winn-Dixie between State and Union on the Mathews Bridge side. A gourmet market may take space in Berkman Plaza.

Greeting cards

Every tower has a gift shop, and you also can get cards at hotel gift shops. Baptist Hospital has two gift/card shops.

Health club

The YMCA has a facility in the basement of the Bank of America Tower as well as its main branch on Riverside. The University Club has a workout area for members atop the Riverplace Tower, and there’s an open-to-the-public club on the ground floor of the building. The Omni, Adam’s Mark, Hilton and Radisson all have workout facilities for their guests.

Hot dog stands

They’re scattered all over and among the usual sites are the corners of Laura and Independent, Forsyth and Newnan, Forsyth and Pearl and Laura and Forsyth. You’ll also find one in Hemming Plaza, in front of and behind the county courthouse, outside the Museum of Science and History and in front of the Yates Building.

Hotels

Adam’s Mark, Extended Stay America, Hampton Inn, Hilton, Omni and the Raddisson.

Ice cream

The sandwich shop at Independent Square. The Ice Cream Churn at the Landing and Scottie Discount Store has single flavors. Coney Island Joe’s on the Southbank Riverwalk. Yogurt, Creams & Things in the Riverplace Tower.

Jewelers

Jacobs is at the corner of Adams and Laura, and Barnett is in Independent Square.

Riverplace Jewelers is in Riverplace Tower, Southbank. Knott & Company is on Hogan in the Ed Ball building. Fox Jewelry and Loan is at Bay and Broad.

Keys

Jax Lock Key & Safe Shop on E. Adams.

Ladies hairstyling

A few: Ziba’s on Hogan, A Cut Above in Independent Square, Adonai Salon in San Marco, Hot-N-Spicy Eye Candy on E. Union St., Daniel James Salon, 45 W. Bay St.

Ladies clothing

The Body Shop, Lerner and Georgiou in the Landing.

Lee’s Nails in the Landing.

Men’s clothing

The Young Men’s Store at Main and Duval. There’s also Diamond Clothiers on the Riverwalk near the Radisson. Ongee and Manhattan Fashions in the Landing.

Men’s haircut

A Cut Above in Independent Square, Ziba’s on Hogan Street, Combs in the basement of the SunTrust building, Roberts Barber Shop in the lobby of the CSX building, or Bank Barber Shop in the Ed Ball building.

Music store

You can buy CDs and tapes in the Landing

New York Times

Most gift shops and at several newspaper boxes around downtown.

Notary Publics

John Bradley & Assoc. on Bay. You’ll probably find one at any of the many bail bond offices, too.

Oil change

The gas stations, the Goodyear store on Broad and in the Independent Square garage annex. There’s a BP station across from Hampton Inn on the Southbank, Howell’s Auto Repair on Jefferson and the Shell station on Beaver Street.

Over-the-counter drugs

The gift shops have aspirin and such, and the Landing has a shop on both floors.

Package stores

If you want a bottle of hootch, you’re outta luck. Nearest: Five Points has two liquor stores. If you want a six-pack, Scottie’s on Adams has beer.

Photos

Berisford’s is on the edge of downtown and offers on-site studio services, or they’ll come to your office.

Prescriptions

Baptist Hospital’s Howard Building. There’s a Walgreens at Park and King. The Winn-Dixie between State and Union.

Popcorn

The Omni’s gift shop. The sandwich shop at Independent Square. If you’re an AmSouth customer, they have a machine in their headquarters at Laura and Bay streets.

Rental cars

Enterprise has an office at the Omni.

Shoeshine

Gus and Co. at Laura and Adams almost always has someone on duty. Same with the tunnel under the SunTrust building. Mr. Rogers in the Adam’s Mark annex.

Shoe repair

Gus and Co. at Laura and Adams, and Bill’s on West Adams.

Smoothie

There’s a Smoothie King in the Elks Club building on Laura and you can get one at the fruit stand on the ground floor of the Landing.

Tailoring

There’s a shop on Hogan between Bay and Forsyth and another on Julia between Forsyth and Adams.

Tires

The gas stations have tire service and there’s a Goodyear store at Broad and Monroe.

Toiletries

Farah’s Save-A-Step Foodmart is a variety store that carries everything from pantyhose, medicine and cigarettes to beer and wine. You can also find these type of items in the store in Independent Square, and there are shops on both levels of the Landing.

Travel agencies

Beeline and Navigant are both on Hendricks Avenue and World Travel has a place in Independent Square.

USA Today

There are racks all over town, plus you can get a copy in any hotel. Remember: no editions on the weekend.

Western Union

At the Greyhound bus station and The Store at the Landing.
