The Jacksonville Beach Planning Commission unanimously approved plans Jan. 13 for The Bearded Pig restaurant.

The Bearded Pig, through King Pin LLC, applied for a conditional use approval for outdoor seating at its planned restaurant at 1700 S. Third St.  The 6,116-square-foot building previously housed a branch of Atlantic Coast Bank.

Outdoor seating will take up 1,500 square feet – 700 square feet will be covered and 800 square feet will be an uncovered grass area.

Plans submitted to the Planning Commission show 160 seats – 68 indoors and 92 outdoors.

In December, owner Michael Schmidt said construction on the restaurant would begin soon after Planning Commission approval. He said he hopes to have construction completed by the summer.

It’s the second location for The Bearded Pig, whose tagline is Southern BBQ and Beer Garden. The restaurant will be similar to the its original location in San Marco, which serves barbecue in a fast-casual setting. It also will serve beer and wine and have a full bar.

In November, the restaurant announced it would move its San Marco restaurant from 1224 Kings Ave. down the street to 1808 Kings Ave.

It will retain the 1224 Kings Ave. space for a future project.
