From JBA members: Where I volunteer and why

"Volunteering offers both a way to give back to those less fortunate and a great opportunity to network and meet new people. One of my favorite volunteering experiences is helping Family Support Services at its holiday event at the Jacksonville Zoo benefiting foster

children and their families. It is always rewarding to see a needy child get a new toy."

"I have a passion for justice founded in my upbringing and the words of Micah 6:8. Driven by that passion, I sit on the board of the Interfaith Coalition for Action, Reconciliation and Empowerment (ICARE). ICARE works to address issues of justice within our city. I was drawn to ICARE because of its practical approach to resolving injustice in Jacksonville."

— Kathryn M. Oughton, Boyd & Jenerette

"For the past several years, I’ve volunteered as an adult literacy teacher at Learn To Read, a local organization dedicated to improving adult literacy. I’ve had the pleasure of helping numerous students improve their literacy and achieve a wide array of goals from corresponding with grandchildren to obtaining GEDs. I’m constantly humbled by my students’ work ethic and patience."

— Jeremy Paul, Dawson Orr

"Growing up, my parents constantly taught, ‘Give and you shall receive.’ I have found that sentiment to be true as giving my time only enhances my life, my practice and my personal and professional relationships. Currently, I give a significant amount of time to pro bono cases through Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and individuals looking for pro bono representation. I also give my time by assisting the Women’s Board in preparation for their annual Art & Antiques Show. Finally, I volunteer with my sorority, Alpha Delta Pi, where I serve as a role model and adviser for young women in leadership positions."
