The following local judges and attorneys have applied to fill a federal judgeship that became vacant with the death of U.S. District Judge Ralph Nimmons in November.

The application process begins when a judicial nomination committee of 54 review and rate an application from 1-5. Depending on the rating, the Middle District Federal Nomination Committee will conduct interviews of those applicants with qualifying ratings. The nominating committee recommends three to six names to the committee president, who sends those names to President George W. Bush. After Bush makes his choice, it must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
