The nomination period is open for the annual statewide pro bono service awards that honor lawyers, law firms and voluntary Bar associations that have contributed extraordinary volunteer service to the community.

During the 2020-21 fiscal year, Florida Bar members donated more than 1.5 million hours and nearly $7 million to legal aid organizations to help people with civil legal matters who cannot afford to hire an attorney.

Nomination forms are available at and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Oct. 7.

In a ceremonial session of the state Supreme Court scheduled Jan. 26 in Tallahassee, lawyers will be honored by the court and The Florida Bar for the free legal assistance they provide.

Judges also are honored for their outstanding and sustained service to the public as it relates to their support of pro bono legal services.

The Bar says the honor underscores a commitment to service and acknowledges the hours of volunteer legal work performed to help children, victims of human trafficking, older adults, refugees, the poor and others who cannot afford legal assistance.
