Executive Director, The Chartrand Foundation

Mission
To improve educational opportunities for children in Duval County, through strategic investments that encourage and support early learning and strengthen the public educational system. The vision is for all children to have the opportunity to achieve their potential and be productive citizens.

Serving Jacksonville
The foundation was established in 2006.

Those served
All of our work directly impacts Duval County.  We fund in the areas of early childhood and K-12 public education.

Biggest challenge
The biggest challenge I face is the biggest challenge our community faces: Co-creating an education system beginning in early childhood that meets the needs of all students and empowers them to dream big and to realize those dreams. Our kids deserve it. Achieving The Chartrand Foundation’s vision will take elevating public will and institutional change. This is a challenge that requires dedicated work and collaboration. It is a challenge for which failure is not an option.

Biggest satisfaction
Knowing that with hard work, bold leadership and the wonderful people who share this work, we will get there. Our goal of students reaching their potential is achievable through finding creative solutions, building meaningful partnerships, listening to all stakeholders and never settling. Collectively, this community will broaden opportunities through the vehicle of education, and I am proud to be a piece of that.

First experience with community service
My mom, Emily, used to take me with her when she read to the kids living at The Boys’ Home when I could barely read myself. Being active in the community was ingrained in me as a kid through my parents’ example. There was never a sense of obligation or responsibility, just opportunities to be kind and loving and connected. My parents are some of the most generous people I know.

Upcoming events
We are excited about the ONE in THREE exhibit opening Friday at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens. The exhibit will run from Aug. 12-Dec. 20, telling the struggles and triumphs of 20 current and former public school students in Duval County. The students’ stories stimulate thought for the ONE by ONE campaign that will engage the public in conversations and action surrounding improved outcomes for students.

Portions of the exhibit will travel throughout the community from January-July while conversations happen in corresponding neighborhoods.
