Executive Director, Jacksonville Humane Society

Mission
JHS is a nonprofit, no-kill center for animal welfare and education that serves as a resource for all companion-animal related issues. The organization is dedicated to finding loving, permanent homes for animals by matching people with the pet that is right for them.

Serving Jacksonville
The Jacksonville Humane Society was founded in 1885 and is based in Jacksonville.

Those served
The Jacksonville Humane Society serves more than 4,000 animals each year.

Biggest challenge
It’s a tossup but they go hand-in-hand – securing adequate funds to meet demands and saying no when we can’t meet demands.

Biggest satisfaction
I have the best job in the world. I am inspired by the kind and generous acts of people every day and rewarded by witnessing the unique capacity of orphaned dogs and cats for forgiveness and trust.

Hometown
Born in Bradford, Pa., raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.

First experience with community service
Delivering hand-picked wild flowers to sick and elderly neighbors on May Day when I was in the second grade – I still remember their smiles.

Your job before the Jacksonville Humane Society
I have worked in the nonprofit field for 15 years. Before that, I was active duty Air Force.

Upcoming events
March 3: Trail of Tails: Fun Walk & Festival at the Jacksonville Landing
