Executive Director, Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra

Mission
To create experiences that enrich the human spirit and inspire a lifelong love of music. Vision: The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra is a vibrant organization recognized regionally and nationally for our artistic excellence and innovative programs in education, audience engagement and community collaboration

Serving Jacksonville
Since 1949.

Those served
The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra serves 200,000 people annually: 100,000 attending concerts in Downtown Jacksonville, 80,000 students, 20,000 in outlying communities. The radio-listening audience encompasses thousands more.

Biggest challenge
Raising corporate and major gift support that will sustain the orchestra and keep it a vibrant part of our community.

Biggest satisfaction
When the music plays in Jacoby Symphony Hall and a full house of audience erupts in a standing ovation. Also seeing the positive impact playing music has on students, most evident at our final Youth Orchestra concert with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra playing side by side with students. I love being part of Downtown and playing an important role in its vibrant future.

Hometown
Missoula, Mont.

First experience with community service
Playing the piano in nursing homes and senior centers when I was in high school and experiencing how much music touched people, especially after their ability to engage in other activities was limited.

Your job before the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra
Executive director of the Kalamazoo Symphony in Michigan.

Upcoming events
More than 15 holiday concerts including Nutcracker, Messiah, The Gift of the Magi (family), Holiday Pops, Michael W. Smith and our New Year’s Eve Celebration concert.

Jan. 7: Gala concert with renowned violinist Joshua Bell at 8 p.m. at Jacoby Symphony Hall. Gala dinner in the Davis Gallery at 5:15 p.m.
