Brian Teeple is retiring as CEO of the Northeast Florida Regional Council next year.

He sent his retirement letter Tuesday to Regional Council President Jimmy Anderson, the board and others saying his last day will be Feb. 28.

“I am proud of what the Council has accomplished and am grateful to have been a part of its success,” he wrote.

Teeple said he was “humbled to have worked with and for the literally hundreds of elected and appointed officials who have led the Board over the last third of a century.”

He wrote he worked with “some of the most talented, courageous and ethical public servants I have had the honor to know.”

Teeple said his retirement ends 33 years at the regional council, which covers the seven Northeast Florida counties of Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns.

The council is one of 10 in Florida that advocates for economic, environmental and governmental issues on a regional level, coordinating with local, state and federal agencies.

Teeple joined the council in 1986 after three years as the community program administrator of the Florida Department of Community Affairs.

He said he is ready to assist the board “in any way” as it transitions to a new chief executive officer.

“I am confident the next CEO will, with the Board’s leadership, take the Council to new levels of effectiveness, respect and relevance.”
