The City, independent authorities, Duval County Public Schools and Bi-Lo have partnered to collect nonperishable food for those affected in the Northeast by Hurricane Sandy. Bi-Lo Chairman Randall Onstead (at podium) launched the drive Monday by donating two tractor-trailers filled with food donations. The City, public schools and independent authorities will have bins through Monday at their facilities, including all 151 Duval County public K-12 schools, to collect donations. The City also will take donations Downtown during the Veterans Day Parade on Monday. The goods will be shipped next week to the Northeast. Onstead was joined by (from left) Jacksonville Port Authority CEO Paul Anderson; Clinton Forbes, Jacksonville Transportation Authority mass transit director; Martin Senterfitt, City Fire and Rescue chief; Ed Pratt-Dannals, schools superintendent; Mayor Alvin Brown; Paul McElroy, JEA CEO; and Michael Jacobsen, City emergency preparedness director.
