A series of building permits have been issued for The Arc Village, a planned South Jacksonville community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Construction and development costs of the project total about $18.7 million, which includes $2.5 million in community philanthropy, according to Judy Hall-Lanier, vice president of development for ARC.

There also is about $1.5 million in donations for operations and startup costs, as well as a $2 million endowment for the project.

The community is planned on about 17 acres along Hodges Boulevard. The addresses listed on the permits are for Kirbo Road and Kirbo Way.

Summit Contracting Group Inc. received permits for 18 duplexes and 20 triplexes, ranging from $171,171 to $297,673 each. There also was a permit for an 11,207-square-foot community center, with a cost of $1.35 million.

Hall-Lanier said the final step for the project should come at a December meeting of the Florida Housing Finance Corp.’s board. The group is in charge of the state’s Housing Tax Credit program. It previously approved nearly $10.8 million in affordable housing tax credits, plus $4.5 million in state funds (including a $1.5 million developmental disability grant) for construction of the village, according to the website of The Arc Jacksonville Inc.

The website said the village is Florida’s first planned community of affordable apartment-style rental homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

There is a groundbreaking and celebration scheduled for 10-11 a.m. Nov. 5 at 3631 Hodges Blvd.
