Publix Super Markets Inc. spokesperson Chris Norberg said June 9 that the Lakeland-based company’s use of the former Lucky’s Market in Neptune Beach will be about 30,000 square feet and include an outdoor seating area for customers.

“Although it will not be a Publix GreenWise Market, it will feature a POURS. Here, customers will be able to order tap beers, wine, coffee, and other beverages that can be enjoyed while shopping,” said Norberg, community relations manager for Publix’s Jacksonville Division.

“More details, including the expected opening date, have yet to be determined.”

Publix paid almost $2.3 million to assume the lease of the closed store as part of Lucky’s bankruptcy deal for Publix to pay $11.5 million for five Florida leased stores.

Those stores are in Neptune Beach, Naples, Clermont, Orlando and Ormond Beach.

The Lucky’s organic and natural foods stores chain declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in January 2020.

Publix agreed to take over the lease and extend the terms to April 30, 2040, with extension options.

That means almost side-by-side Publix stores at 580 Atlantic Blvd., the former Lucky’s Market, and the larger existing store at 630 Atlantic Blvd.

The former Lucky’s is 29,810 square feet and within 500 feet of the existing 54,310-square-foot Publix.

GreenWise is Publix’s specialty, natural and organic foods and products brand. Its first area store opened in Nocatee.
