Retail notes: Wawa to West Jacksonville, Publix moves forward at Beachwalk

Closed ABC to be dispensary

The city is reviewing a permit application for Sanctuary to occupy a former ABC Liquors store at 11450 Beach Blvd. The medicinal cannabis dispensary would use 3,305 square feet of the 7,385-square-foot building. The estimated $700,000 project would improve the exterior and part of the interior for Sanctuary and make basic improvements to the adjacent 4,080-square-foot space for a future tenant. ABC Properties Ltd. of Orlando owns the 1.54-acre site. Sanctuary Medicinals LLC of Apopka is listed as the owner on plans.  

Wawa to Edgewood

The city issued a mobility fee calculation certificate for Wawa at northwest Edgewood and Commonwealth avenues. The 5,636-square-foot gas station and convenience store is planned on 1.83 acres at 1004 Edgewood Ave. It is a former bank site. A previous mobility fee certificate expired July 22. Brightwork Real Estate bought the site in December 2017 through BW Edgewood Commonwealth LLC. Bohler Engineering is the civil engineer.

PEBB lands construction loan

PEBB Enterprises announced that it secured a construction loan from Truist Bank for the new Publix-anchored retail center it is developing in St. Johns County. The $9.92 million transaction closed Sept. 11. PEBB, a South Florida-based commercial real estate investor and developer, bought the 8.85-acre project site July 10. Initial site work is underway. J. Raymond Construction is the general contractor. Plans include a Publix and 10,500 square feet of additional in-line retail space. The site, at 855 County Road 210 W., is across the street from the master-planned mixed-use Beachwalk community.PEBB expects to complete construction by summer 2021. In addition to Publix, signed tenants include a Publix Liquors store and Lavender Spa. The company is in negotiations with several prospective tenants.

Publix at Beachwalk

Meanwhile, St. Johns County issued a permit for the $4.1 million construction of an almost 52,000-square-foot Publix Super Markets Inc. store at 835 County Road 210 W. in Saint Johns in the Beachwalk development. The county also approved construction of a 10,500-square-foot retail building next to Publix at a cost of almost $1.8 million.
