Friends and family gathered Friday on the Northbank Riverwalk behind the T-U Center for a ceremony honoring Patricia Austin, the late wife of former mayor Ed Austin. Artist Bruce Wolfe from California sculpted the bronze statue in the figure of a mother and daughter. In remembrance of her volunteer and charity work, the stone base bears the engraving: “Our dreams live on in our children,” and an inscription on the statue’s base reads: In memory of Patricia Austin 1934-1996.

“Many, many people knew and loved her,” said Kay Ehas, Jim Overton’s Council aide.

“With Mother’s Day, this is a good time to unveil this art work that is a symbol of all the children and families she touched throughout her life,” said Overton, who was instrumental in bringing the project to fruition.
