Swift Transportation buys Westlake land

The Phoenix-based company plans a truck distribution center on 14 acres.

Swift Transportation Co. of Arizona bought property at Westlake Industrial Park where it plans a truck distribution center.

Swift Transportation bought more than 14 acres Nov. 13 from Westlake 11 LLC of Irvine, California, for $1.185 million.

On Nov. 8, the Jacksonville Planning Commission approved a zoning exception for outside storage for a trailer transfer between customers and manufacturers for Swift Transportation Co. of Arizona LLC.

The zoning application described the operation as truck distribution center for trailer transfers from manufacturers to customers’ distribution centers.

Plans show a 19,800-square-foot office and shop building on the site. Parking is provided for 119 standard and five accessible spaces, 93 tractors and 159 trailers.

Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings Inc., based in Phoenix, calls itself the largest full truckload carrier in North America.

According to its website, Knight-Swift Transportation Holdings provides truckload transportation and logistics services using a nationwide network of business units and terminals in the United States and Mexico to serve customers throughout North America.

It says that it also contracts with third-party equipment providers to provide truckload services to its customers while creating driving jobs and business opportunities for independent contractors.
