Whataburger appears to be opening at the Atlantic North shopping center, the second restaurant in a week to disclose plans for a location there.
JEA is reviewing a service availability request for a 3,745-square-foot Whataburger at the northwest Kernan and Atlantic boulevard shopping center owned by Sleiman Enterprises.
Halff Associates Inc. is the civil engineer. On April 14, it asked JEA about the availability of electric, water and sewer services.
The request doesn’t specify the site, but Whataburger builds stand-alone stores with drive-thru stores on outparcels.
Whataburger has seven locations in Jacksonville, Neptune Beach, Orange Park and Yulee.
The request comes as Another Broken Egg is making plans to open at the East Arlington shopping center.
The city is reviewing a permit application for build-out for Another Broken Egg Cafe at 11949 Atlantic Blvd., No. 105, in Atlantic North.
L&P Architecture of Akron, Ohio, is the architect for the 3,300-square foot project. Plans show a $500,000 job cost for tenant improvements for the restaurant in a building where Fancy Sushi and Verizon Wireless lease space.
The city also is reviewing a permit application for landlord Sleiman Enterprises to prepare the space for build-out.
