Incoming City Council President Clay Yarborough has made his standing committee appointments for the 2014-15 council year that begins Tuesday.
Like outgoing President Bill Gulliford, Yarborough selected nine members to the Finance Committee.
Doyle Carter will serve as council chaplain during meeting. Ray Holt will serve as the floor leader.
One difference this year is the combination of the Recreation and Community Development Committee with the Public Health and Safety Committee. Former council President Stephen Joost did the same when he served as leader of the 19-member body in 2011-12.
Yarborough said Monday he did so because the two committees average only four or five bills per meeting and they consider similar subjects.
Another difference is Gulliford is serving as a committee chair, which is unusual for an outgoing president. He will lead the Rules Committee.
That sets the number of standing committees at five. They are:
Richard Clark, chair
Matt Schellenberg, vice chair
Land Use and Zoning
Ray Holt, chair
Stephen Joost, vice chair
Recreation, Community Development, Public Health and Safety
Don Redman, chair
Doyle Carter, vice chair
Bill Gulliford, chair
Warren Jones, vice chair
Transportation, Energy and Utilities
Reggie Brown, chair
Bill Bishop, vice chair
In addition, the Waterways Commission will have Jim Love, Don Redman and John Crescimbeni serving. The rest of the council liaisons are being finalized.
