Youth mentors needed

The Jacksonville Women Lawyers Association held a general membership meeting Tuesday at Southend Brewery. Stephanie Yazgi of the Public Defender’s Office discussed the need for volunteers to mentor troubled youth. She is the assistant director of the Success Through Knowledge tutoring program, which reaches out to children in the Duval Regional Detention Center who are awaiting court hearings or placement in various programs. Social and educational development is the emphasis. All of the minors in the program are aged 10 to 18 and are willing participants. Volunteers are subject to fingerprinting and a background check.
