Jacksonville Jaguars mascot Jaxson de Ville was the star of a press conference Tuesday as the Chamber hosted a “Get in the Game” promotion to encourage local businesses to buy Jaguars season tickets and avoid blackouts. The mascot bowed and kissed the feet of Bob Helms, chief executive of the local office of First Union/Wachovia, when he announced a pledge from his company to purchase 500 tickets.

“Blackouts are a black eye for the city,” said Mayor John Delaney, adding that he and his wife will purchase two tickets personally and donate them to City employees to reward good service.

Helms, along with First Union/Wachovia North Florida Regional president Winston Wilkinson are hosting a series of executive briefings this month to rally support from local company executives.

The Jaguars need to sell about 14,000 additional tickets by Aug. 15 to avoid blackouts.
