• The winners of this year’s auction of violins hand-painted by local artists as part of the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra’s Music For Your Eyes fundraiser are Lynn Evans, Delores Kessler, Linda Holmes, Maureen Mone, Mary Ellen Smith, Nancy and Bill Thompson, Ruth Conley, Bonnie King, David Matter and Craig Taucher. Proceeds from the event benefits music education programs.
• Rebecca Miller, a staff accountant at Presser, Lahnen & Edelman, has been awarded the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship by the Rotary Club of Riverside. She will study International Accountancy at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
• The Springfield Youth Fest is scheduled for Saturday at Klutho Park from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. City Council member Pat Lockett-Felder will present the Trashbuster awards to young people who took part in the program to help clean up Springfield. There will also be entertainment, featuring local dancers, singers, poets and musicians. The event is free and the public is invited.
• A 1940 Delta Air Lines DC-3 that first carried Delta passengers six decades ago is scheduled to visit Jacksonville June 19 to celebrate Delta’s continuous service since 1947.
• The Spina Bifida Association of Jacksonville has been recognized nationally be the Spina Bifida Association of America. Stephanie Dulac, executive director of SBJA, received the Outstanding Group Leader award for her accomplishments while heading the organization. SBJA received a second place award for Outstanding Web Site, which was developed and maintained by Kellie Osgood, and a second place award for Most Innovative Programming for its adult work training program.
