Jacksonville attorney John J. Schickel has been appointed for a second three-year term as an at-Large director of The Florida Bar Foundation’s board of directors.
Attorney Noel G. Lawrence takes office as a designated director of The Florida Bar Foundation in his capacity of president of Florida Legal Services, a statewide legal aid support organization dedicated to ensuring that poor people have equal access to justice.
Schickel received his juris doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law. He practices with Coker, Myers, Schickel, Sorenson & Green, P.A. and specializes in civil trial work and workers’ compensation. He is a past member of the The Florida Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization and Education, including serving two years as chairman, and has also served on the bar’s Trial Lawyer Executive Council. As a member of the Foundation’s board of directors, Schickel serves on the Administration of Justice Grant Committee
and the Budget and Finance
Committee.
The Florida Bar Foundation is governed by a 29-member board of directors comprised of the officers of the Foundation and six directors by designation (two judicial officers appointed by the Chief Justice, the president, president-elect, and immediate past president of The Florida Bar, and the president of Florida Legal Services, which provides coordination, training and other support services to legal aid programs across the state). Two public members, non-lawyers, also serve on the board and are selected by the Foundation and The Florida Bar. Eighteen at-large directors serve a maximum of two three-year terms, with one-third selected by the board of governors of The Florida Bar, one-third by the board of directors of the Foundation and one-third by the Florida Supreme Court.
Lawrence received his juris doctorate from the University of Florida College of Law. He is a principal partner of Lawrence, Parker & Neighbors, LLC and specializes in commercial and corporate litigation and federal criminal cases. He is currently a board member of the Florida Board of Bar Examiners, has served as president of the Jacksonville Area Legal Aid Board, the National Bar Association – Florida Chapter, D.W. Perkins Bar Association and Jacksonville Urban League Youth Auxiliary. He was also voted “Attorney of the Year” in 1994 by The Florida Bar. As a member of the board of directors of The Florida Bar Foundation, he will serve on the Legal Assistance/Law Student Assistance Grant Committee.
