Bovine traveler gets a law lesson

The Duval County Courthouse played host to a special visitor Tuesday. Molly the cow, a class mascot from Holy Rosary Catholic School, wanted to learn about the courts, and County Court Judge Mallory Cooper was happy to teach her. So far, the bovine traveler has gone sailing and visited Disney World.

“I think the kids will really get a kick out of seeing their mascot in the paper,” said Cooper. “It’s a great idea.”

The brainchild of second grade school teacher Susan Babish, Molly’s main purpose will be that of “writing prompt” for her students when school resumes in the fall.

“I can’t take full credit for the idea,” said Babish. “But I want the students to imagine and write about new adventures for her.”

Molly has already received an offer from the Supervisor of Elections Office to learn about how an election is run and she’s expected to get her library card soon.

“Molly really loves to read,” said Babish. “But math is her favorite subject.
