City Council auditor Bob Johnson worked for the City of Jacksonville for 35 years. He crunched his last number June 27 while surrounded by friends and colleagues during a retirement party his honor.
“The City of Jacksonville would not be the city that it is today without Bob Johnson,” said former City Council member Terry Wood. “He’s the father of consolidation who had the mind for the numbers and the personality to deliver the importance of its message. We’re all owe him a great deal of thanks.”
Council vice president Elaine Brown concurred.
“He’s a wonderful, wonderful man,” she said. “He’s a hero to this City. He’s my hero.”
And Johnson expressed mutual admiration.
“I’m feeling a lot of mixed emotions,” said Johnson. “I feel a sense of loss, yet I am also excited about what’s next for me in life. I don’t know what that will be, but I’m looking forward to it.”
