Marcy Mock has been a REALTOR® with Summer Beach Realty on Amelia Island since 1990.
WHAT IS
SUMMER BEACH?
Summer Beach Resort is a gated community with oceanfront and poolside condominiums, townhouses and villas. It also has full resort amenities including a beach club, tennis courts, and a Mark McCumber-designed, 18-hole championship golf course, The Golf Club of Amelia Island. The Ritz-Carlton sits in the middle of their property so they share amenities.
WHAT DOES SHE DO?
She lists and sells general real estate, Summer Beach properties and resort properties all over Nassau County and she has her brokers license.
SPECIALIZE IN?
Condominiums.
WHAT DID SHE DO BEFORE REAL ESTATE?
She was a registered technologist (she can do almost everything dealing with X rays) with St. Luke’s Hospital. She has earned the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists designation.
WHEN DID SHE GET INTO REAL ESTATE?
In 1980. A friend of hers kept bugging her to get her real estate license. She started in general real estate for a few years and then became a builder’s specialist with Amelia Park Company, a developer in Amelia Island. “I’ve always done site work, which I really like. That is the advantage of Summer Beach because I have the best of both worlds. I do general real estate, site work and I am in a resort.”
TOP PRODUCER?
Mock has been a multi-million dollar producer for many years and she was No. 1 in sales again this year. Last year, she was beaten out by her son, Jonathan Mock of Prudential Island Realty. But, this year she rose to the top once again with $30 million in sales.
HOW DO YOU BECOME A $30 MILLION PRODUCER?
“I have been in real estate a long time, I am from this area and I am in a good spot. We have a lot of traffic and I take good care of my customers. I work hard, stay with them and don’t disappear after the sale. Most of my real estate sales are high-end properties and last year to do $30 million, I think I sold 40 properties, mostly condominiums. Condominiums here are our highest selling property.” She said the condominiums sell for $1.5 million to $2 million.
SECRETS TO
YOU SUCCESS?
“Follow up. I think you need to follow up because your service doesn’t end with the sale, it lasts forever. I have customers that I sold to 10 years ago and they are still calling to ask me things. They want me to help them and I like doing it. Repeat business and customer referral is everything.”
WHY SELL IN FERNANDINA?
“I grew up here and I know the area backwards and forwards. I know everything that has happened on this island. There are not many questions that people can ask me and I don’t know, and that helps.”
WHAT DO YOU LIKE ABOUT REAL ESTATE?
“The people and I really enjoy finding out about the properties, the planned unit developments and developments of regional impacts. We have to know all of that when selling properties. There is so much more to it than buying a piece of property and getting a building permit.”
ADVICE FOR
NEW AGENTS?
Mock said to learn your area and know your product. “I feel it is our duty in the position we are in to be able to answer the questions correctly and honestly. There is a lot of money in real estate, but it’s not all about money. There is honesty and integrity involved and they need to keep that in mind.”
WHAT IS GOING ON IN NASSAU COUNTY?
“I see the road between Fernandina and Yulee getting very crowded because there are no service roads. We have North Hampton with 500-plus homes and Oyster Bay with not as many homes, but still a lot. We have a golf course site, Amelia National, which has not been developed yet, but it will have at least 500 homesites. We have Lowe’s, Target and a Super Wal-Mart going in and we are going to have a lot of people coming here. We have had a tremendous explosion of people on the island and off the island in the last 10 years. They are already starting to call The strip between I-95 and Yulee ‘Blanding Boulevard’ and it’s going to get worse.”
