Jim Ade, a member of the Christian Legal Society, Albert “Bud” Toole and Rose Marie Preddy, president of the CLS, were among those who attended last week’s luncheon at The Seminole Club. Toole, now retired from the investment business, was the speaker. His topic, in broad terms, was how a Type A personality could survive for 20 years in Russia and other Iron Curtain countries.

• Target Corporation has awarded a $2,000 grant to daniel, Florida’s oldest child serving agency, to support its arts program.

• Shirley Lee is the new membership chair for the Jacksonville Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. She replaces Sheila Allport, who resigned from the board.

• “Brahms’ Requiem,” part of the Wachovia Masterworks Series, will be presented Thursday through Saturday, at 8 p.m. by the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra at the T-U Center. “Words on Music” begins at 7 p.m. Post-concert Talkback, hosted by Arthur Crofton of FM-96.1, follows the Saturday performance.

• Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. has named Cheryl Murphy development director and Lashun Stephens Human Services Council planner.

• Gateway Community Services, Inc. has named Gary Powers executive vice president. Powers will be responsible for managing the organization’s daily operations.

• Jacksonville Suns head groundskeeper Ed Attalla was named Class AA Sports Turf Manager of the Year by the Atlanta-based Sports Turf Manager’s Association. Attalla will be honored and presented the award in December at the Baseball Winter Meetings in New Orleans, and recognized at a conference in January in San Diego.

• Baptist Medical Center South will host a topping out ceremony Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the site of its new facility, 14550 St. Augustine Rd.
