Miles A. McGrane III of Coral Gables is the scheduled speaker at the JBA’s Sept. 18 luncheon at the Omni.

McGrane, who heads the firm of McGrane and Nosich, has been active in Florida Bar activities since 1982 and served on the Board of Governors from 1992-2000.

He was board liaison to the civil procedure rules committee (1992-2000), the code and rules of evidence committee (1998), the health law section (1995-97) and the public interest law section (1997).

McGrane has served on numerous committees, including the executive committee (1994-95). He was chair of the 2001 Annual Meeting Committee and was appointed to the Board of The Florida Bar Foundation by the Florida Supreme Court in 2000.

“As my predecessors before me, I pledge to defend our honorable profession and to guard the independence of the judiciary,” said McGrane.

Another priority for his term is meeting the legal needs of children. McGrane says he hopes to fulfill the recommendations of the Bar’s Commission on the Legal Needs of Children, from rule changes to engaging more lawyers in pro bono programs for children.

“I’m challenging the lawyers in Florida to do more for the children,” said McGrane. “I want Florida’s lawyers to step up to the plate, particularly regarding children’s issues.”
