• Mudville Grill in the Schultz Building could be open by early May, according to building management.
• Members of the Raleigh Chamber of Commerce were in town last week for a Leadership Trip to see how local leaders are dealing with issues that might apply to the North Carolina city. One visitor saw the trip a little differently, saying with a grin that if we needed any help we could come to Raleigh.
• The Jacksonville Historic Preservation Commission will present the City with a 2004 Historic Preservation Award for its development of an Archival Management Plan.
• Jacksonville’s new cruise ship business has been a boon to area travel agents. One local travel agent reported to Jaxport that he has sold 1,100 cabins aboard cruise ships sailing from Jacksonville. The Celebrity ship Zenith left April 11 for its final spring cruise from Jacksonville. The ship will return in November.
• Around the Corner Deli on West Forsyth Street is now serving breakfast.
• Sonya Harrell Hoener, a shareholder with Marks Gray P.A. has earned board certification in appellate practice from The Florida Bar. Before joining Marks Gray, Hoener practiced as an assistant public defender in the 7th Judicial Circuit. She now focuses on state and federal appellate practice with concentrations in municipal liability and personal injury defense.
• A training institute, presented by The National Center for Victims of Crime, will be held Wednesday and Thursday at the Adam’s Mark Hotel. Among the topics to be covered are the latest issues dealing with teen victims, dating violence, stalking, sexual assault and addressing repeat victimization. The sessions are recommended for professionals and organizations that work with victims, including domestic violence shelters, law enforcement officials and advocates, psychologists, religious leaders, youth development workers and social service providers.
