• Work will start today on a new cover over the Landing’s courtyard stage. According to a Landing spokesperson, the retractable canvas roof will provide performers with protection from the rain and excessive sun and should be operational by Saturday.

• Property Appraiser Jim Overton is making sure we know he’s there — you got a two-page flyer with your assessment with information on various procedures. You also will note a new way to goof up the convention center’s name — the flyer calls it the “Price Osborne.”

• There will be plenty of military at Friday night’s Jaguars game against Tampa Bay. The team will honor the National Guard both in pregame and at halftime.

• Reminder: the deadline for filing local bills with the Duval County Legislative Delegation is Oct. 14.

• If you have questions about the Aug. 31 primary election, check your mailbox in the next few days. The Supervisor of Elections Office is mailing sample ballots to registered voters.

• That giant fan near the west entrance of the Duval County Courthouse? It’s to blow the cigarette smoke away from the entrance.

• Still on the mend after breaking her ankle last month, City Council member Sharon Copeland will play host Friday to officials visiting from Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Copeland and her guests will dine at a Mediterranean restaurant located near her district.

• Candace Moody, vice president of marketing and communications for WorkSource, wanted to clarify that the work force research and consulting firm is not charging the City for its work with the Jacksonville Economic Development Program. WorkSource is screening applicants for the JEDC’s 31 job openings.

• Condo sales at the Plaza Condominiums at Berkman Plaza and Marina have been a bit lopsided to date with most of the sales coming on the side of the building facing the river, according to sales staff. But as the City gets closer to renovating Bay Street, Berkman is getting more interest for apartments facing downtown. The developer, McRae and Stolz of Atlanta, will offer a free year’s worth of building association dues for city-side buyers. That could save more than $4,000. Of the 103 apartments closed so far, The Liberty, a one bedroom, one bath layout facing the river, has been the most popular seller.

• Basketball legend Magic Johnson will be in town Sept. 21 to open the 19th nationwide Magic Johnson/HP Inventor Center at Hill Top Village Apartments. The concept is aa community center with the emphasis on technology.

• Congratulations to developer John Rood. He’ll be sworn-in as ambassador to the Bahamas today.
