A deal for the old JEA headquarters building at 223 W. Duval St. has been reached, subject to JEA board approval.
The 18-story building will be converted into office condominiums and rental space aimed at the legal community. The building is located across the street from the U.S. Courthouse at Jacksonville and a couple of blocks from the new Duval County Courthouse complex.
“This classic structure is destined to become Jacksonville’s most prestigious legal address,” said Park Beeler, managing member of Trinity Realty Partners, the master developer of the project.
Plans for the building include an extensive program to modernize the interior and exterior while preserving the classic international style of architecture incorporated in the original design of the building by KBJ Architects, who will also handle the renovation project.
“Our focus will be the re-creation of an architecturally significant structure in the historic core of downtown to compliment the new Duval County Courthouse project, and bring a major private sector investment to the City’s enlightened program of new public facilities through the Better Jacksonville Plan,” said Beeler.
Skanska USA Building, Inc., will be the general contractors for the project.
The deal is expected to close in about 90 days.
