It’s never too late.
After more than 37 years as a publishing industry sales representative for Jostens Inc., and only six short months of retirement, Don Lendry enrolled in school to work towards a real estate license.
“After retiring I became restless and wanted to find a new challenge,” Lendry recalls. “I missed the sales action and meeting new people, but I didn’t want to consult in the same industry because after almost four decades it just wasn’t exciting anymore. I wanted something completely different.”
Lendry wasn’t prepared to give up leisurely days spent on the beach for just any old job. Having always controlled his own work schedule, the perfect position would have to afford that same flexibility.
And when Lendry’s son Bryan, founder of Brylen Homes, Ltd., suggested he consider a site agent’s position, and even offered to pay the tuition for the requisite real estate courses, he took the offer.
After completing the coursework and accompanying examinations, Lendry obtained his real estate license. But the routine of a site-specific agent proved to be too structured. Lendry still yearned for that idyllic combination of schedule flexibility and interactive customer contact. Based on his previous successes in developing sales with individuals who owned their own lots, Brylen On Your Site was established.
Brylen On Your Site allows lot owners to select a home design from Brylen’s award winning portfolio of plans, customizing it to meet their individual tastes and requirements. Starting with an existing plan shaves off thousands of dollars in architectural fees.
“I start with a base plan and customize it to meet the buyer’s needs,” Brian Lendry said. “The changes can be extensive... elevations, square footage added, walls moved or deleted... but starting with a Brylen plan saves the buyer time and money.”
