W.G. Pitts Company recently completed construction on the front entrance to Heritage Landing at World Golf Village. The company reports that construction is well underway on the community’s amenity center, which is scheduled to open in winter 2005. The $5.5 million project will also include a swim center and a host of other family-friendly amenities.
Developed by D.R. Horton, Heritage Landing is in St. Johns County near the intersection of the William Bartram Scenic Highway (SR 13) and SR 16. The community’s amenity center - Camp Heritage - will be reminiscent of an old campground or small logging encampment, with native forests surrounding the community gathering area.
This area will also include a storytelling ring, an outdoor movie screen, a campfire ring and an open-air picnic pavilion with a freestanding fireplace and grill.
The icon of the camp is the swim center’s spiraling waterslide tower. Designed to resemble a forest service lookout tower, the slide, which - at 27 feet - is one of the tallest in Florida associated with a residential neighborhood. The slide will plunge into a pool that will weave through a series of river-like elements. True to the theme, a nearby shallow play pool will bubble up and mimic natural, underwater springs that feed into a series of adventure streams.
On the other side of the pool will be a six-lane, heated Junior Olympic pool with decks and shade pavilions. The campground area will also offer horseshoes, volleyball, bocce, shuffleboard and an exploration playground.
Other amenities will include four lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, a full sandlot baseball field with small bleachers, timber pole dugouts and an antiquated scoreboard, basketball courts and a full soccer field.
The main building, Camp Central, will feature the Heritage Room, a multi-purpose social gathering space with an outdoor veranda that will overlook the swimming environment. The Heritage Room is expanded through its connection to the open-air picnic and grilling pavilion and is available to residents for parties, receptions and celebrations.
