City Council staff scouted area buildings Friday, hoping to secure a location to update a century old panoramic photo of the city’s skyline.

“I think it’s a very interesting and exciting idea,” said Council public information chief Cindy Warner. “We’re hoping we’ll be able to get a photograph that can show us how much our city has grown in so many ways over time.”

Warner and City photographer Wes Lester believed they captured that image on the 17th floor of the JEA’s Church Street headquarters.

“It was a little nerve-racking, but we think we got some really great shots,” she said, “and we’ve been told that we’re welcome to come back if we need to, which is excellent.”

Warner said the updated photo will eventually surface on various Council marketing items, including calenders and brochures.

“It’s just another way for all of us to celebrate our latest renaissance by comparing it to the one our city experienced so long ago,” she said. “Something really interesting is that if you just casually look at what we were able to get today, you’ll notice that even with all of the newer things happening downtown a lot of our historic buildings have been remarkably preserved.”
