• Lawrence J. “Larry” Hamilton II, a trial lawyer in Holland & Knight’s Jacksonville office, has been elected to the firm’s Directors Committee. The committee consists of 24 partners from offices across the country and is the policy-making body of the firm. Members of the committee serve three-year terms. The election occurred at the firm’s annual partners meeting, held recently in Orlando.

• Lunch and labor law will be on the agenda March 12 when Coffman, Coleman, Andrews and Grogan host their “How-to” briefing on employment at the River City Brewing Company. The half-day briefing is aimed at attorneys and employers and covers how to hire, fire, pay and give leave to employees. The briefing focuses on keeping these practices in line with recent changes to State employment law, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the new Florida Minimum Wage Act. • Coffman, Coleman attorney Bill Andrews will be keeping busy out of work. He’s been re-elected to the Jacksonville Regional Chamber of Commerce Board and has also been elected to the Community Advisory Board Committee for TV-7, the local PBS station. Also, Coffman Coleman attorney Mary Jarrett was recently installed as the president of the board of Pine Castle, a non-profit that provides job placement and other services for developmentally disabled adults.

• Washington, D.C. attorney Stephen Hamlon will be speaking at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid’s annual Breakfast of Champions Wednesday April 27 at the Radisson. More than 40 local firms have already signed up to sponsor tables at the event. The breakfast starts at 7:30 a.m. For more information, call JALA’s development office at 356-8371.

• Ponte Vedra attorney Dan Armstrong has been appointed to the Alzheimer’s Board of Professional Advisory. Armstrong focuses his practice in Elder law, estate planning and business law.

• Registration is now open for the Jacksonville Bar Association’s Golf and Tennis tournaments to precede the May 19 annual meeting at The Deerwood Golf and Country Club. The golf starts at 1 p.m. Registration is $110 per person. The round robin tennis tournament starts at 1:30 p.m. Registration is $25 per person. The golf, tennis and meeting are for JBA members only.

• Eric Smith, executive director of Florida Coastal School of Law’s Center for Law and Public Policy, will be in Albania this week. Smith was invited by the U.S. Department of State and the Albanian government to speak at an international conference on mediation. Smith will represent the United States and will speak about victim’s rights and restorative justice.
