• The Jacksonville Jaguars signed first-round pick Matt Jones late Monday night. The quarterback-turned-wide receiver should be at practice Tuesday.

• The official Florida-Georgia T-shirts have been printed and there are three of them this year. The generic shirt has “The Tradition Continues” on the back. The Georgia shirt has “Follow the paws” on the front and “if you’re a Dawg” on the back. The Gators? Simply “Unleash the Fury” on the back. All of them have the official game logo on the front left.

• City Council member Elaine Brown is up for appointment to the Joint Planning Committee. The group serves as a liaison between Council and the Duval County School Board.

• At Monday’s press conference at Alltel

Stadium to announce the Chamber’s new

truancy program, the speakers were all in the shade of the stadium, but several rows of chairs were in the sun. After just a couple of minutes, almost everyone had sought shade including

Chamber President Wally Lee.

Services department will hold a Homeless

Veterans Resource Fair from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Saturday at the Fairgrounds. Some of the free

services available will include shelter and housing information, debt management, job and Veterans Affairs services, sight and hearing tests, clothing, food, haircuts and showers.

• In case you can’t get enough of Tim

Deegan, Ch. 12/25 now has weather available 24 hours a day. On July 25, the news station started Weather Plus, a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week news channel that can be found on digital Ch. 247 — and yes, that’s planned. The channel is a partnership with NBC and affiliates all over the country will carry the channel, which consists of a 15-minute loop. During those 15 minutes, two local segments and two national segments will air and meteorologists will be able to break in to the programming during emergency weather situations.
