Susan Adams Loyd says it’s sort of like a long hangover — she’s still recovering from the Super Bowl.
And with good reason: Loyd is vice president and general manager of TV-30, which televised the game, and TV-47, both owned by Clear Channel. She called the broadcast “one of the most amazing telecasts in the history of the industry.”
Loyd was the Downtown Council’s guest speaker at its Friday meeting at the River City Brewing Company.
“I’m still recovering from [the Super Bowl],” she said, “It was my staff’s single greatest event in Jacksonville. It was a wonderful opportunity to shine. I’m still amazed Jacksonville had the Super Bowl.”
Loyd said telecast ranked among the highest ratings in Super Bowl history, and that fact didn’t slip by network representatives. She said the ratings are a “key factor” in the consideration for another Super Bowl for Jacksonville.
“The ratings reflect not only on how well the station did, but also how well the community believes in itself and its love of football,” Loyd said.
TV-30 had a 58.9 rating, meaning that’s the percentage of Jacksonville homes which were tuned into the Super Bowl.
Loyd said that by halftime at the game, she finally relaxed.
“I finally said [to myself], ‘Would you start having fun? Everything’s going fine.’
“We’re over this giant speed bump I call Super Bowl, and now the world is our oyster,” Loyd said. “This is such an exciting time for you as a consumer and for us as a broadcaster.”
