Four applicants received the first Arnold Tritt Scholarship awards last month at the Northeast Florida Builders Association and Sales and Marketing Council Installation and Awards breakfast at the University of North Florida.

The scholarship is awarded to qualified students enrolled in the University of North Florida Building Construction Management program based on financial need.

Each of the four recipients was awarded $2,000. The four are Thomas M. LoCicero, Damian Presiga, Myra P. Shunny and Bradley L. Sleeth.

Glenn Layton, chair of the Arnold Tritt Scholarship committee and vice president of construction at North Florida Builders, A Woodside Company, presented the awards.

The winners:

Thomas M. LoCicero is a junior at UNF with an interest in residential construction. He is the treasurer of the UNF-NEFBA Student Chapter and has participated in Builders Care projects. LoCicero was named to the Dean’s List and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa and the Golden Key honor societies. LoCicero has worked since he was a sophomore in high school, and his job with Roché Contractors Inc. in Tampa was the inspiration for his career choice.

Damian Presiga, a graduate of Naples High School, is a junior at UNF. He is the immediate past president of the UNF-NEFBA Student Chapter, and he currently is president of the Construction Management Association. Presiga is an intern with North Florida Builders. He has been involved with several Builders Care projects. Initially interested in commercial construction, Presiga now is pursuing a career in residential construction.

Myra P. Shunny, a senior in the UNF Building Construction Management program, is a member of the UNF-NEFBA Student Chapter. She was a volunteer driver in the 2004 Parade of Homes. Shunny is an intern at Danis Construction, and was named to the Dean’s List earlier this year. She is coordinating the UNF/Building Construction Management Employment Showcase. Shunny plans to pursue a master’s degree in business while working in the construction industry.

Bradley L. Sleeth, a sophomore in the

UNF BCM

program, returned to college after serving as an officer in the U.S. Army and with a degree in science from Vanderbilt. It was while serving in the Army that Sleeth developed his desire to pursue a career in the construction industry. He is an intern with The Auchter Company. Sleeth currently is pursuing interests in commercial construction.

Contributors to the fund include NEFBA’s Charitable Foundation through its annual gala, Ken Kuester of Lumber Unlimited, Joel Dantzler of the Dantzler Group and KB Home.

Applications for the Arnold Tritt Scholarship are available from the Northeast Florida Builders Association, 103 Century 21 Drive, Jacksonville, by calling 725-4355 and online at nefba.com.

Awards will be made again in the spring 2005 at the UNF-NEFBA Student Chapter Hard Hat Banquet.
