• Ch. 12/25 has a new weekend sports anchor. Pete Cataldo takes over for Jeff Prosser July 16. Cataldo was most recently with FOX affiliate WGXA in Macon, Ga. Prosser is moving to a part-time role, but will still co-anchor Sports Final on the weekends with sports director Dan Hicken. He and Hicken also have a daily sports talk radio show in the morning.
• Speaking of talk radio, AM 1530 has a new weekday line-up that includes G. Gordon Liddy from 10-noon, FOX’s Bill O’Reilly from noon-2 and Andy Johnson’s “Down to Business” from 2-6 p.m.
• A recent list put out by Old Spice ranks Jacksonville as the 19th sweatiest city in the country. Tops on the list, which used average temperature as the main factor, is Phoenix, which breaks 100 degrees on a regular basis during the summer (it was 110 on Monday).
• The second annual “Bike Around the World” — an informal gathering hosted by Ponte Vedra chiropractor Kelly Huber — was a big success over the holiday weekend. The 10-stop tour started with a house with a USA theme and wrapped up with an Irish-themed stop. Word is about 400 invites went out, about 300 participated and only one bicycle is unaccounted for.
• This month’s Cummer Cafe Night at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens is next Thursday and it’s a salute to the armed forces. There will be a live band and those attending can check out the museum’s current exhibition, Picturing Jacksonville: 150 years of Photography.
• Jacksonville Community Council Inc. has scheduled its next Five O’clock Forum for Thursday, July 14. The topic? City Government: Is Anybody Listening?
• The search continues for an in-house City Council grant writer. Word is the writer will also be responsible for a good bit of legislative research as well as taking over some of the duties of Cindy Warner, the Council’s former public information chief.
