About 155 members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Northeast
Florida, Inc. gathered Friday to hear the winners of Rogers Towers’ 100 Years of Jacksonville History Contest.
“In honor of Rogers Towers 100-year anniversary, we decided to implement a program in the community that would support and encourage children and education,” said Tom Helm, marketing director for Rogers Towers. “Today’s award ceremony is recognizing those who participated in the contest so they can feel proud about their participation and learn more about the city we all live, work and play in.”
The contest asked the Boys & Girls Clubs in Duval, St. Johns and Nassau counties to split the kids in three different age groups. Ages 6-9 were in the pictorial category, ages 10-12 were in the time line category and ages 13 and up were in the essay category. All of the information used in the contest was to depict Jacksonville over the past 100 years. First place winners received a laptop, second place received a $250 shopping spree and third place received a $100 shopping spree, both at
JC Penny.
Tracee Tyner Norris, special events and marketing director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida, Inc., said the kids have been
looking forward to the awards ceremony.
“They have been very excited because they put in a lot of time and effort,” she said. “We are very happy they had the opportunity to
learn about the last 100 years of Jacksonville.”
