• Former mayor’s office staffer Heather Murphy has returned to TV-4 as a reporter. Murphy was with the station before joining Mayor John Peyton’s staff as a spokesperson right after Peyton took office.

• City Council president-elect Kevin Hyde is having a big month. Besides being picked for the Council’s top spot, Hyde was recognized by a national trade publication as one of the best attorneys in Florida. Chambers USA: America’s Leading Business Lawyers recently ranked Hyde, an attorney with national firm Foley & Lardner, as one of the best employment attorneys in the state.

• Something of note from yesterday’s Hyatt story that we omitted. The Hyatt will no longer run the parking garage that services the hotel. They are turning that over to Central Parking Services, the company that operates several garages and lots around downtown.

• The first recipient of the newly-created Tillie K. Fowler Distinguished Leadership Award is Courtenay Wilson. Both Fowler and Wilson were members of the 1979 Leadership Jacksonville Class and Wilson was the president of the board of directors in 1984. Wilson was recognized for involvement in the community that includes The Community Foundation, Dreams Come True, Greenscape and many others. Wilson received the inaugural award on June 9.

• Speaking of Leadership Jacksonville, they have announced their 2005-06 board of directors: Linda Larkin Smith, president; John Bottaro, president-elect; Michael Shalley, immediate past-president; Sandra Ramsey, secretary/treasurer; Jan Lipsky, adult program chair; Susie Slappey, youth programs chair; Chuck Diebel, development chair; Art Graham and Noah Henderson, selection chairs; and David Clark; alumni chair.
