• A big South Florida homebuilding company is moving into the area. Transeastern Homes is developing three communities here.

• The City is going through with its promise to continue clean up efforts downtown after the big day a week before the Super Bowl that saw hundreds show up to pick up trash. This time it’s going to be around the river’s banks on Saturday morning. The City will provide gloves and trash bags at dozens of parks and boat ramps, then everyone gets together at Metro Park at noon for free t-shirts and refreshments.

• Next week’s Players Championship may see the strongest field yet. According to tournament director Brian Goin, all 50 of the PGA Tour’s top 50 are still committed to play. Big names that will be missing include Craig Stadler and Ben Crenshaw, so far.

• Jacksonville may be finally completely rid of former Jaguars defensive end Hugh Douglas. He recently sold his Queen’s Harbour home for $715,000.

• Another Jag, receiver Troy Edwards, knew all along he’d be retained by the team. Though his signing was announced just this week, he bought a home a month ago.

• If you pay close attention to our warranty and mortgage deeds, that was not a typo in Wednesday’s paper. A piece of property in Perimeter Park really did go for $119 million and change.

• Mayor John Peyton has been selected by Florida International Magazine as one of its 100 A-List Floridians. He just may go to the reception, too. It’s next Thursday at the Ritz-Carlton in South Beach.

• Speaking of Peyton, he recently got a bunch of letters from kids from Jefferson Davis Middle School. As part of a science class project, they had to write a letter to Peyton offering him advice on what energy source to use for the next electrical generating plant in Jacksonville. The suggestions included biomass, wind, solar and hydropower.

• The annual Bob Hayes Invitational Track Meet is Saturday at Raines High.

• The Cultural Council honors its best at a luncheon in April. The big Founders Award goes to Mary Ann and Shep Bryan — she an artist, he a big supporter — and the individual winner is downtown advocate Tony Allegretti. Other winners are AmSouth Bank, the Bruent-Garcia advertising firm and educator Kelly Delaney.

• The National Football League continues its regional scheduling for exhibition games so you’ll see Miami and Atlanta here in August. The Jags travel to Tampa Bay and Dallas. Dallas? Seems the league sets only three games for each team and lets them pair up with someone else for another, and the Jag organization is close with the Dallas folks. Only one game day and time is set: Atlanta is here Aug. 25 at 8 p.m. for a national TV audience.
