• The developers of the Peninsula, the Southbank condos now under construction, say they’ve sold almost 200 of the 234 units. There’s still a variety of condos, they say, from the low $300s to over $1 million.
• Three locals are on the ballot for the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame with the winners being honored this fall before the football game. All three are Gators: ex-legislator Don Gaffney, attorney Fred Abbott and banker Andy Cheney. Gaffney was a quarterback, Abbott was a linebacker and Cheney was a receiver.
• The mayor may be in Europe for 10 days but there’s still plenty to do in the Mayor’s Office. It’s the first of many budget review weeks and that means budget meetings every day for many.
• Jacksonville is considered one the top 25 art destinations for big cities in the United States. American Style Magazine ranked Jacksonville No. 23 (just ahead of Indianapolis and Detroit) on the list of “big” cities, those with populations over 500,000. New York, Chicago and San Francisco topped the list.
• Word is the Ace Hardware on Third Street in Jacksonville Beach will relocate in the middle of June. The store is moving to the long-vacant former A&P location in the K-Mart strip mall in Neptune Beach. A multi-story office-retail condo will be built on the site of the current Ace.
