• The law firm of Brennan Manna & Diamond has moved. No, they’re still downtown, but the burgeoning firm managed to outgrow their former 17th floor digs in the Humana Building in just about a year. They’re now in a larger suite four floors up.

• Rotarians all over Jacksonville are celebrating today. Rotary’s 100 year anniversary is this week.

• The Times-Union has finally found a new business editor. Jennifer Merritt will be joining the paper soon, coming over from Business Week. The Northwestern University grad has also worked for the Boston Business Journal and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. Current T-U staffer Paul Mattson will take over as assistant business editor.

• The Sulzbacher Center is hosting a groundbreaking on its new administration and medical building on June 2 at 10:30 a.m.

• Membership to the University Club is by invite only and City Council President Elaine Brown has been invited, by Board of Governor President John Murray no less. Brown’s $500 initiation fee will be waived but she has until next Tuesday to accept.

• Council member Art Shad took strong exception to comments in a letter from a citizen that expressed displeasure over her husband not being eligible for the City’s Active Duty Military Combat Grant. Shad responded by reminding her that he spent a year in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm “eating dirt and dodging enemy fire.” He also reminded her the City had nothing in place for combat veterans at the time and she “should be thankful for the generous program the City has put in place.” Also: “I find your letter particularly ignorant of the circumstances surrounding the changes made in order to keep the program in place.” Shad did invite her to come in and talk about the issue.
