Florida Coastal School of Law
Florida Coastal School of Law received the International Visitor Corps of Jacksonville’s 2005 Business Diplomat of the Year Award for the school’s contribution to the betterment of international relations. The school was recognized for its work with international visitors hosted by IVCJ. In 2005 attorneys, judges and government officials from more than 20 countries visited the school. The IVCJ is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization. Its mission is to promote better international relations by hosting and arranging professional programs for visiting professionals sponsored by international exchange programs.
Florida State University College of Law
Florida State College of Law’s Mock Trial Team recently took first-place in the 2005 Lone Star Classic National Mock Trial in San Antonio, Texas. Team members Robyn Blank, Joshua Grosshans, Jonathan Stimler and Josh Taylor maintained a first-place rank throughout all six rounds of competition between 15 other law schools from around the country.
University of Florida Levin College of Law
Veteran legislator and UF law alumnus Rep. Michael Bilirakis (R-Tarpon Springs) will be the keynote speaker at graduation ceremonies for the Levin College of Law Dec. 16. Bilirakis is a 1963 graduate of the law school and a senior member of the Florida delegation to the U.S. House of Representatives. A member of the House since 1983, Bilirakis is chairman of the House Oversight Committee and holds ranking positions on a number of other committees, including Veterans Affairs and Energy and Commerce. About 150 law students are expected to graduate in the ceremony, which will be held at 3 p.m. at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
University of Georgia School of Law
UGA law professors Ronald L. Carlson and David E. Shipley have been appointed as charter members of the State Bar of Georgia Foundation of Freedom Commission. The commission was established to promote public understanding of the law and its role in society through an educational campaign concentrating on democracy, the rule of law, the legal profession and the judicial system.
Stetson University College of Law
Court TV news anchor Jack Ford will be the commencement speaker at Stetson Law’s graduation Dec. 17. Before going into journalism Ford spent three years as a prosecutor in New Jersey, several years in private practice and was an adjunct law professor at the Fordham Law School.
St. Thomas University School of Law
Professor Ken Feldman was recently appointed as the director of community outreach and pro bono services for the school. In 2000 the school instituted a mandatory pro bono program requiring each student to select from more than twenty community public service groups and perform at least 40 hours of law-related pro bono work before earning a law degree.
