Not surprisingly, well-known names occupy the city’s most expensive homes.
A survey of the 25 highest-appraised homes reveals names such as Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver, Stein Mart CEO Jay Stein and Fidelity National CEO William Foley.
The home with the highest appraisal is Weaver’s, whose waterfront mansion in the San Jose area is listed at $7,105,979. It’s rumored to be on the market for $8.5 million as the Weavers soon will move to the Villa Riva condominiums in the Riverside area.
Only three homes in the traditionally-wealthy Ortega area are on the list, those of retired banker Jack Uible, developer/builder Preston Haskell and investor Billy Morris, who’s married to Uible’s daughter.
Many of the top 25 are in the 32207 zip code. There are 10 of the 25 in the San Jose/San Marco area including Foley, St. Joe CEO Peter Rummell, County Judge Tyrie Boyer and wife Lori Nemeyer Boyer, investor James Dahl and Stein.
Only one doctor cracked the top 25: oncologist Scot Ackerman.
There are four oceanfront homes, one in Atlantic Beach and three at the southern tip of Jacksonville Beach, and just one in tony Avondale, the riverfront home of banker Raymond Mason Jr. on Richmond Street.
After Weaver’s home, the appraised values drop quickly and the figures go below $5 million at No. 7. There are 15 homes appraised above $4 million and the last of the top 25 is the oceanfront home of Lisa Lovett, $3,367,007.
While most are in populated areas, one is not: the Pablo Creek home of former Winn-Dixie CEO A. Dano Davis.
There’s one trait that the top 25 share: all are on a body of water, be it as big as the ocean or as small as the Ortega River.
The condominium market along the oceanfront hasn’t yet brought big appraisals and the highest are in the $1.5 million range.
