Governor gets six names
The 4th Judicial Nominating Commission has pared 10 applicants for the new circuit judgeship down to six. Commission chair, Mary Bland Love, sent two judges — County Judges Mallory Cooper and Brent Shore — as well as attorneys Thomas Beverly, Kevin Blazs, Robert Cole and Tatiana Salvador to Gov. Jeb Bush for consideration. The new judgeship was created by the state Legislature to serve Duval, Clay and Nassau counties.
Bench and Bar date announced
Jacksonville Bar president Alan Pickert announced the details of the annual Bench and Bar party at the JBA luncheon last week. This year’s Bench and Bar party will be Dec. 6 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Aetna Building.
New filing fee increase
The filing fee for adversary proceedings in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida has increased from $150 to $250.
Hernandez out of Hispanic Bar elections
Arthur Hernandez has withdrawn his name from the current slate of officers up for election for the Hispanic Bar Association of Northeast Florida. He was on the slate as a candidate for vice president of membership and events. That position is once again open for any interested HBA member and nominations for the position can be sent via e-mail to [email protected]. Nominations are requested by Oct. 27.
UF Law alum party for Florida-Georgia
The University of Florida Law alums are throwing a “Beat the Dawgs” party at the River Club Oct. 27 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
New hires
Michael Billmeier Jr., Timothy Anderson, Sara Carter and Genesa Eavenson have recently joined the law firm of Volpe, Bajalia, Wickes, Rogerson, Galloway and Wachs. Billmeier comes to the firm as the former staff director of the civil justice committee of the Florida House of Representatives. Anderson is a University of Florida graduate and will practice in the commercial litigation and insurance areas. Carter and Eavenson are Florida Coastal School of Law graduates and also will join the firm’s commercial litigation and insurance unit.
