• Jacksonville Bar Association President Alan Pickert still has two months left on his term, but his constituents are already getting restless. Tuesday at a JBA administration photo shoot, Pickert was taunted with calls of “Lame Duck!”
• The City is busy chasing down current addresses for members of the Florida-Georgia Game Hall of Fame. Last year some members didn’t get their invitations to the annual banquet, including former Bulldogs coach and athletic director Vince Dooley. For the first time, the members are also being asked for input on new inductees.
• It wasn’t an April Fool’s joke when Dave Schneider, a senior project manager with the City’s Public Works Department, made his first hole-in-one. He was playing at Bent Creek and had four great witnesses — his three usual playing partners and the course ranger.
• Duval County School Superintendent Dr. Joseph Wise will be the guest speaker at next Friday’s Downtown Council meeting. It’s at the River City Brewing Co. with breakfast and networking starting at 7:30 a.m. The meeting starts at 7:50.
• The referral-based networking group Networth will host its “Wading with Winners” beaches social April 27 at Casa Marina Hotel & Restaurant in Jacksonville Beach. It’s from 5-7:30 p.m. and costs $25 at the door or on the group’s Web site, www.NetWorthJax.com. The recommendation is to bring lots of business cards.
• Cathedral Residences, a high-rise retirement community in Downtown, is looking for sponsors for its spring jazz concert to “Keep Our Seniors Rollin’.” Proceeds from the concert will help to fund the purchase of wheelchair accessible transportation for those living at Cathedral Residences. • Try fitting this on a business card. The Prince Hall Affiliated Shriners, also known as the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America and its Jurisdictions Inc., not only has a really long title, but the group will host the 2006 State Convention in Jacksonville May 25-28. The Daughters of Isis, simply put, are also hosting the event at the Hyatt.
• Ever wonder how it would be to star in a TV commercial or be driving down the road and see your face on a billboard? That could happen to you if you sign up to participate in the City of Jacksonville’s new marketing campaign promoting JaxParks. The campaign is titled “Be a Star in the Park.” The city is looking for participants ages 5 and up. The casting call is from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on April 22 at Cuba Hunter Park.
